Natural Pain Relief Solutions – How to Know Which One is Right For You

There are millions of people around the world who are in pain right now, ranging from a minor painful irritation to raging, crippling pain which totally debilitates them and completely destroys their lives.

Did you know that pain makes up 32.6% of all serious disease in the Western world… where as heart disease only afflicts 11.2% of the population? In fact, pain is the leading cause of disability in people 15 or older.

Whether it’s back pain, neck pain, arthritis, fibromyalgia, joint pains, muscle aches, headaches or any one of the hundreds of chronic pain syndromes that have now been identified, the cost on both personal and family levels, as well as social and economic levels is absolutely staggering.

It is increasingly becoming understood that medications and painkillers are not a real solution to this problem– at best they give temporary relief, and at worst they sweep the symptoms under the carpet while leaving the cause untreated to develop into much more serious and even life-threatening problems.

Many people are now turning to natural pain relief methods as a solution to their problems and health challenges, often with great success; however there are such a bewildering array of options and therapies out there that it can be confusing to even know where to begin looking.

This article is an attempt to cut through some of the confusion and help people to find a natural pain relief solution that is right for them.

In my years as a chiropractor, kinesiologist and natural health expert I have found one thing to hold true with all types of pain… must find and treat the real cause!
Sounds obvious, doesn’t it? Yet this is not the way our current medical system often operates- most drugs are designed to block or suppress the pain only, which is why it comes back once the drugs wear off.

Only once the real cause has been identified can you really start making progress in your health. In natural medicine we look at 3 main areas that can affect our health, which we call the “triad of health”.

These 3 main areas are structural (physical), chemical and emotional. Imbalance in any one of these areas will lead to imbalance in the other areas, and ultimately to pain being produced in the body.

Let’s look at each of these areas a little more closely:

Structural – this means all the physical structures and tissues of the body, such as muscles, bones, ligaments, tendons, joints, organs and glands. Damage to any of these tissues will lead to pain, as our body’s way of letting us know that we need to rest that structure to allow it to heal. This damage could be a strain, tear, rupture, or even just something that is misaligned and creating pressure on another structure.

There are 2 main ways that structural damage occurs. The first is trauma, or injury, such as a fall, sporting accident or sports injury. The second way, which is very common, is repetitive micro trauma- basically when something is overused in the same way again and again, leading to wear and tear and damage over time.

Pain that is a result of a structural problem usually requires a physical treatment, such as chiropractic, physiotherapy, osteopathy or massage.

However, the fact is that most structural problems, especially the repetitive strain type, have underlying factors on the chemical and emotional sides of the triad of health, which is why these physical therapies often only have limited success in many cases.

Chemical– Basically there are 2 possible imbalances on the chemical side of the triad- you may either have too much of something (like a toxic or poisonous substance), or too little of something (a nutritional deficiency). Either of these problems will lead to inflammation and weaknesses in the tissues, predisposing you to develop structural problems.

The most common of these problems is toxicity…in fact we find this to be a factor in pretty much all cases of pain that we see in our centre. Unless you live on a mountaintop in the Himalayas and eat only organic food then chances are that you have toxic chemical and heavy metals in your body. We get these from the foods we eat, what we drink, the air we breathe, the cosmetics, soap and shampoos that we use on our bodies…pretty much everywhere in our environment.

Deficiency of key nutrients is also a factor in many cases, even though we have access to a good diet. The sad truth is that due to modern farming, storing and shipping methods many of our foods simply don’t contain the nutrient value that they used to. Combine this with the fact that many processed foods block up our gut and stop us absorbing nutrients properly and you have a recipe for disaster.

Emotional – This is by far the most commonly overlooked aspect of the triad of health. We all know that stress is no good for us, but most people don’t realize just how directly our emotions can affect our bodies, our health and our pain levels.

If you have tried every sort of pill, potion and treatment for your pain without results then this may be the area that you really need to look at. The problem is that many of the emotions that are causing our pain and health challenges are subconscious, meaning that we are not really aware of them. This is because whenever we experience an emotion or situation that our conscious mind is not able to deal with, our subconscious protects us by locking that feeling away at an unconscious level, where it stays until we are ready to deal with it and release it.

One of the easiest and fastest ways to identify and eliminate these subconscious blocks is through the use of kinesiology. This comes in many different forms, but they all use testing of the muscles to reveal what is creating stress in the nervous system, which controls and coordinates all other systems in the body.

Two forms of kinesiology that I have found to be amazingly effective at uncovering and permanently removing these subconscious emotional blocks are Neuro Emotional Technique (NET) and LifeLine Technique.

Often clearing up the emotional side of the triad creates an immediate change in people’s pain levels and allows the healing process to begin on the other sides of the triad.

The best and fastest way to uncover the answers is to consult a skilled kinesiology practitioner. By testing your muscles they will quickly be able to identify where the real problem lies. Once that has been found, it is simply a matter of testing what returns your muscles to strength, which reveals what the body needs to permanently eliminate your pain. The solution may be a physical treatment, a detox or nutritional supplement, or an emotional release such as the ones mentioned above.
